From Pastor Dave – Thought For Today: “Spirit Filled”?

Preacher:
Passage: Ephesians 5:14-21, Galatians 5:16

Spirit Filled?

How can I know if I am truly filled with the Holy Spirit?  Is it a "feeling" or a lifestyle?  Well, the Apostle Paul gives us some wise counsel in Ephesians Ch.5:14-21.

  • Vs.14:  "Be alert!"
"Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give light."
  • Vs.15:  "Pay attention to what you're doing."
"See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,"
  • Vs.16:. "Seek to honor Christ in all you do."
"redeeming the time, because days are evil."
  • V17: "Seek the Lord's wisdom in all you do."
"Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is."
  • V18: "Be Christ centered not self-centered."
"And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit."
  • V19:  "What is coming out of my mouth?  Someone has well said: "That what comes up in the bucket is what's in the well." What's in the well of my heart? A song?
"speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,.”
  • V20:  "A heart of Thanksgiving?"
"giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
  • V21:  "My attitude towards God and others."
"submitting to one another in the fear of God."

Our lifestyle is not a matter of momentary successes or failures. We are called to a "walk", not a run or jogging.  Walking suggests a consistent progress. Where and how we walk will determine both our progress and destination. "I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh." Galatians 5:16. Let's all keep it simple and walk with Jesus. Knowing that He is walking with us whether we recognize Him or not.
